Novice Skills Course

3 day course

Depending on Covid restrictions at the time, as set out by the PHO, we offer two forms of Novice motorcycle training. If Covid restrictions are in place, we will be holding three evening sessions (Tuesday to Thursday) consisting of 2-2.5 hours each night. If restrictions are lifted, we will be proceeding with the full day 22-24 hours worth of training.

1st Choice Motorcycle School Novice Skills Course Description:

Course #1:

Tuesdays to Thursdays, 6-830pm

What the rider can expect:

Professional instruction on motorcycle operation and handling by certified ICBC motorcycle instructor(s).We talk about various topics throughout the evenings that include but not limited to:

Pre-tripping your MC, you and your motorcycle, rules of the road, The SEE-THINK-DO principle, sharing the road, and adverse road condition, strategies and emergency situations.

The student is given the opportunity to learn and build key fundamental riding skills in a closed environment. This course is designed to take even the most inexperienced of riders and have them safely and confidently operating a motorcycle after just a few hours.

Our courses use a “building block” approach to learning where we take skills such as Friction Zone application, buddy push exercises, moving off from a stop or shifting gears, u-turns, slalom, emergency braking, intersection navigation and we break them down into several smaller exercises. Each exercise is talked about and then demonstrated by our certified ICBC instruct(s) before the student gets the opportunity to practice. Students then practice each component, all the while receiving constant supervision and feedback.

We then offer a 5 hour urban and rural training session ($50/student, coaches are free) , going over important aspects of riding every other Sunday of the month. Coach riders are encouraged to attend this training to assist them in helping and mentoring their riding companions.
