Motorcycle School Novice Skills Course:
Description:
Friday-Sunday 830-430
The Novice Skills Course has 8 hours of theory in a classroom environment and 16 hours practice session in a controlled environment. During this session, students will participate in discussions and exercises that cover many aspects of operating and riding a motorcycle in today’s environment.
A combination of handouts, presentations and group discussion help to complement the lessons being taught. Some of the topics covered in the Novice theory sessions include:
The rider. What to expect.
You and Your motorcycle.
Knowing your motorcycle and general maintenance.
Rules of the Road.
The SEE, THINK, DO principle.
Sharing the Road.
Adverse road conditions and emergency situations.
On day two of our Novice Skills Course the beginner student is given the opportunity to learn and build key fundamental riding skills in a closed environment. This course is designed to take even the most inexperienced of rider and have them safely and confidently operating a motorcycle after just a few hours. Our courses use a ‘building block’ approach to learning where we take skills such as moving off from a stop or shifting gears, and we break them down into several, smaller exercises. Each exercise is talked about and then demonstrated by our certified ICBC instructor(s) before the student gets the opportunity to practice. Students then practice each component, all while receiving constant supervision and feedback from their instructors.
1st Choice Motorcycle School Students:
Students will directly apply knowledge learned from classroom theory sessions during their practical training sessions (riding). Each student will use a motorcycle supplied by 1st CHOICE MOTORCYCLE SCHOOL or use their own insured motorcycle in order to practice and become proficient in both slow and high-speed control maneuvers.
1st Choice Motorcycle School Instructors:
Our ICBC licensed instructor(s) are on hand to instruct, coach and assist each student through all the required course exercises. Some of these exercises include:
Basic balance and braking.
Slow speed control techniques (U-turns, slaloms, figure 8, off set cone weave).
